Dear Rea:

This is to certify that the burnt wood panel painting on wood, unsigned, measuring 16 1/2 by 8 3/4 inches in old bronze gold frame, "WINTER SCENE" is a genuine example by Horace Pippin.

Since I have not purchased or sold any Pippin paintings for a great number of years I cannot give you any realistic value of his work. I have vaguely heard that several of Pippin's paintings have sold in N.Y.C. but the exact details I do not know.

I know of only one that was sold at the Auction Rooms of Sotheby-Park-Bernet in N.Y.C. 3 or 4 years ago called "LOSING THE WAY" an oil on canvas. This painting was purchased by Dr. M. Leof (not Micky but his father) and he had it for several years, and then apparently gave it to Cliffort Odets. It was sold a few years after Cliff's death. I had been requested by a party to bid on the painting, to go to $10,000. I did not get it for someone-else paid $12,000 for it.

Very truly yours,
