The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture has enjoyed from its beginnings in 1925 a national and international reputation as the premier research library for materials by and about peoples of African descent. While emphasizing the
on history, literature and the social sciences, the role of the arts and the acquisition of three-dimensional art objects were not neglected by Mr. Schomburg and his curatorial successors.
