In order that the Asst. Com. may know the facts in regard to the case of shooting a colored man near this place on the 5" inst. I have the honor to make the following report.

On the afternoon of the day mentioned three men who were very much intoxicated and driving in a buggy, upset their buggy between this place and Hyattsville.

A colored man was sent to assist them in righting their team, and after he had done so, one or two of the party charged him with having upset them. and collared him.

He sprang away and was leaving them when one of the party shot him in the thigh.
