but trifleing being totally incapable of following the business and formerly persued.  I have thought of applying for a commission in the new organization of the V.R.C. recently authorized by act of Congress.  But having but a common school education, and knowing there would be so many applications, and also that the examinations would be more thorough than they were when I was commissioned in the V.R.C., I concluded that the attempt would be fruitless.  If you know of any vacant Government positions that I am capable of filling, you would do me a great favor by interceding in in my behalf.  I have written to the Quartermaster General in relation to the Government property situated in Houlton in this state, known as the Garrison, asking for the privilege of having charge of that for which the Government pays ($20) twenty dollars per months.
