OFFICE OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE OF INDIANA YEARLY MEETING OF FRIENDS,
FOR THE RELIEF OF FREEDMEN.
Richmond, Ind., Aug. 24 1866

Gen. Thomas Adj Gen Comr R.F & A.L

Esteemed Friend
Joseph Dickinson, the Clerk of our Business Committee, and myself have just returned from a visit of inspection to the Orphan Asylums at Lauderdale Miss. and Helena Ark. We found the buildings used for the Orphan Asylum at Lauderdale had nearly all been removed on the lands owned by this Committee and are now occupied by the children, numbering about 150.

We would now respectfully suggest the propriety of proposing to Gen O.O. Howard, the transfer of the buildings, used for the Asylum, to Indiana Yearly Meeting of Friends, agreeably to the arrangement made last winter at the time of purchase of said land, (consisting of 121½ acres) for that purpose. Early attention to this will be esteemed a favor.

Very respectfully
Timothy Harrison
Secretary
