I am surrounded has been a powerful incentive but with such mingled emotions I hope to accomplish some good. I am twenty two, but want of years and experience I do not think will prove a disadvantage. I am exceedingly in earnest and will await anxiously your decision, hoping if you think I can be of any service or contribute in any way to this great work I may find a situation at or near Washington where I may find myself under the protection of friends. The idea of being from home and alone, now causes my only hesitation. May I entreat you to consider my request and advise me of your decision at the earliest moment.'
