0068 Alexandria V'a Dec 18'th 1866 Maj Gen O O Howard Commissioner &c Washington DC General. I am anxious to be detailed as an agent for the Bureau R.F. & A.L. in any place you may in your judgement assign me. I have been recently appointed 2'd Lieut in the 45 Regt U.S. Inft. V.R.C, but as yet have not been officially notified of the fact but presume I will be soon, as I understand that the appointments are now before the Senate for confirmation. If detailed my endeavors will be to aid you, in carrying out the designs of Congress in establishing the Bureau.
