It was sadly unfortunate that the crop was so short this year. most of the freedmen were working for part of the crop. where that was the case they will make nothing I never saw such a crop in my life in no Country - Some farmers will not make Scarcely Seed that was planted. The prospect for living in this County is decidedly gloomy. but the farmers desire to keep the labor if they can & most of them will try it another year. I will be very much pleased to hear from you at your leisure.
