Jake Harris (Col.) says
I was at the Camp meeting at Shipleys Woods, when the colored people commenced the prayer meeting, - the white people got up in the trees and threw a club in among the colored people - kept on with the prayer meeting - I was in the prayer meeting singing when a stone came flying over and struck me on the head and knocked me down - when I fell down I heard the white men cry "fall" and then they shot 6 times.  The colored people all run, and I went into the tent - I did not come out anymore until it was all over.

George Griffin (Col.) says
I was at the Camp meeting at Shipleys Woods on Thursday night - I heard the shooting and the shots came though my tent. I stayed until all the colored people left and then I left too.  I saw one club thrown into the prayer meeting, but I don't know who throwed it. After I came back I found my tent cut to pieces - bed and quilts burnt up, and all my dishes, cups & saucers &c. broken up - cloth burnt up. - and every thing I left there destroyed. - I had about $5. in my carpet bag - my carpet bag was burnt up and I lost my money.
