When you spoke to me yesterday & desired my assistance in your benevolent plans. I cheerfully agreed to aid you to any extent in my power. but the proffer was made conditionally - to give my services & I have found it necessary therefore to modify your letter as far as I was concerned by an endorsement as follows.
