as he calls it. - He makes many observations on the report of Col. Rutherford, taking up and denying it by particulars:

1: Veracity: - he supports this with numerous affidavits from Bishop Waugh, Judges Kennedy & Latrobe, &c, &c.,

2: Poverty: states that his large fortune has been expended in educating and providing for his 20 children

3: Slavocrat:- states that he freed all his slaves as fast as they grew old enough to take care of themselves, and never believed in the right of slavery.

4: "Enemy to the Negro"- denies this most emphatically & gives a very favorable opinion of the intellect &c of the negroes around him. Is a friend of the Bureau &c

5: "Rebel":- denies this, & states that he was a volunteer in the war of 1812., & would be double dyed traitor if he had gone wrong this time. 

Concludes this letter with the remark that he has 6 sons and as many sons in law who will be ready to avenge him on his anonymous detractors whenever he tells them to.

Another letter of the same date (Dec 23) encloses a certificate from Dr Lynch; from which it appears that Dr Richardson is a man of the most excellent character in all the relations of life, & more particular
