Lieutenant -

I have the honor to report that the Steamer L. B. Hodge landed the detachment sent to me [[strikethrough]] at Rosedale [[/strikethrough]] - at Bolivar and not as required by the order of transportation

Bolivar landing is thirty six miles by land and by river is sixty miles from Rosedale the place of destination. Sergt Miller in charge of the detachment remonstrated against being landed at Bolivar, saying they had not yet passed Napoleon  The Mate of the steamer assured him that this was the point of destination. It was night and no person was near to give information, so that the detachment landed at Bolivar

This caused a delay of three days and the expense of team and wagon to bring the detachment and their Baggage from Bolivar. The rumor that troops had come to this sub district spread abroad through the country and Mr. Berry suspecting that they had come to liberate the Nolan children endeavored to remove them to central Mississippi - and it became necessary for the detachment to make an extended
