States that A J Milsted (White) came to Texas about 20 years ago being then a widower the father of two children and bringing with him a Slave woman whom he manumitted and commenced living with as man and wife He had several children by her and has since suddenly died expressing a desire that the colored woman and he children be allowed what property he then possessed he having previously given the two white children a liberal share. States that the white son had the Colored woman and children arrested and put in jail taking from them every cent they possessed leaving them in a desititute condition.

Respectfully returned J. P. Butler S.A. Com'r a Brownsville who will arrst this man and compel him to restore to this woman all money and personal property taken from her. Also report why she was placed in jail and inviting his attention to enclosed letter of A P Wiley and he will answer the interrogations contained therein, returning all these papers to this Hd Qrs with report
