Should you however tender me a position, the salary of which would be more in keeping with the requirements of my family, if you have any such place you will render me an assistance, the remembrance of which would never become effaced from my memory, and which I should ever aim to reciprocate. 
I have no fears that I could not satisfactorily fill any position you might give me. As to my qualifications I can refer to Hon. J. M. Edmunds, late commissioner of the General Land Office, under whom I occupied the chief clerkship of the Swamp Land Division of that office, with eighteen clerks under my control. 
Trusting that your kind efforts to serve me, and accommodate my brother=in=law D. C. Forney, Esq., will result in a favorable solution, I subscribe myself
