doctor and the armey has called him up for service - as of September 1 to Camp Pickett.

The war certainly is making changes noticeable here already. The sub base is much more active and there is talk of mining the harbor again, the CB. Co. is stepping things up. The airport is much more active. Also some of the teachers have been called into service. I don't know - right now the situation doesn't look any too bright. Believe it or not, I have yet to go in swimming this summer. I just haven't found the time to go; it always seems as if I find more important things to do. Probably when I leave N.L. I will wish I were near the ocean so I could go swimming. When my cousin from Ohio was here we drove up to Narraganssett in Rhode Island for a day and had a picnic on the rocks and watched the gulls, men fishing and the waves. It was a beautiful sight.

Guess I've rambled on enough for this time and hear Mother calling it's time for dinner. Mother and Dad send their best wishes for a good trip, which I know you'll have! Take care of yourself, Charlene.

Lovingly,
Marilyn
