National ZooFari 1991 National ZooFari is an annual gala fundraiser, hosted by Friends of the National Zoo (FONZ) to benefit the Theodore H. Reed Animal Acquisition Fund. Named in honor of the National Zoological Park's long-time director, the fund supports the National Zoological Park's efforts to acquire, exhibit, and breed rare and endangered species. Feline Fantasia Building the BioPark ZooFari highlights the world's thirty-seven species of cats in a "Feline Fantasia." Among the most popular of animals and playing an unparalleled role in human culture, cats from magnificent tigers to tiny black-footed cats are also among those most threatened with extinction. ZooFari proceeds will be directed toward the National Zoo's world-renowned conservation, exhibition, and research programs with cats, as well as toward BioPark education programs that highlight the relationships between cats in all their diversity and human culture throughout the world.
