God So Loved

"For unto us a Child is born!"
We feel that we were there
That blessed night in Bethlehem
When anthems filled the air.
We stand in shadow, quite obscure,
Hugged close to stable wall,
Caught in a holy hush so still
It seems to shout to all
Through pounding pulse of reverence
Upon our waiting ear,
"Behold, the Lamb of God is come;
Salvation's day is here."
We visualize that sacred scene,
Gaze on the Babe asleep,
Mary, Joseph, Wise Men there
With oxen and the sheep.

Caught in the wonder of it all,
We pray we may repair
Our attitudes toward humankind,
Spread goodwill everywhere.
With sobered thoughts, we then return
To our reality,
Contemplating blessings and
The beauty that we see.
We count the gifts from God's own hand;
Patience, faith and love,
A fragile power, authored to bring
His kingdom from above.
What glorious news! "For God so loved
The world, His Son He gave" -
The message was, that holy night,
"He came the world to save."
