The Christmas Tree

A forgotten Christmas tree
Sat lonely in the wood,
It wasn't chosen to adorn
Some parlor like it could...
It wanted to be beautiful,
Bedecked with baubles bright,
And lit at night with fancy globes
To be a splendid sight...
The birds and forest creatures
Must have known its woe,
For soon there came upon it
Two rabbits and a doe...

They bedded down on needles
Beneath the lonesome pine,
And birds flew on the branches
As if by great design...
And an iridescent bluebird
Made a sudden stop
On the very tallest branches
It made a brilliant top...
Soft snowflakes started falling
And soon all flocked with white,
The little tree was lovely
And quite an awesome sight...
For there was not a parlor
Anywhere across the land
That had a little Christmas tree
More stately or more grand!
