Thursday A.M.

My dearest Mama-

At last I have unwound myself and get a few lines off to you.

Received your sweet letter on Tuesday. Thank you for the $. Also many thanks for the advance word on the exam. I received a detailed notice form the Dept. of Education yesterday. It would seem that the general methods are being replaced by emphasis on the teaching procedures, principles etc. of the particular subject. I hastened over to the library yesterday noon and got four methods books for the teaching of Jr. & Sr. high English. At present I am reading one by Cross and Carney, rev. 1950. The library does not carry any books by Dr. Lou La Brant.

Speaking of Dr. La Brant~ Charles and I had the pleasure of meeting her and escorting her (in our car) from the C. & O. Railroad Station last Sat. morning (4 A. M.) She was the guest speaker for an English conference (statewide) held here on the campus. Dr. Kemp had me as registrar for the conference. I also had the pleasure of being recorder for a panel session on Writing. Guess I've really been hobnobbing with the ritz ~ Nat. Council of Teachers of English President. Received a lovely letter of thanks from Dr. La Brant. That is a contact well-made, I would say. I am enclosing the conference program. Will bring letter when I come.
