| Aug 1st 1866 #202. | Walton Samuel B. | Bellefonte Va July 31 1866  Writes in behalf of Abner Edwards (cold) who desires assistance to enable him to recover his three children from his former master Henry Glasscock who lives near "Thoroughfare" Gap Fauquier Co Virginia | Aug 7th Respectfully referred to Asst Comr Va for report S.T. A.A.A.G  Aug 24 Recd back inviting attention to endorsement of Lt Chase stating that Mr Glasscock is willing to give up Melvina and Abner but says Charles is the son of a white man and that Edwards has no right to him. If Edwards will come to the office of Lt Chase he can get the children. Aug 25 Respectfully returned to Saml Walton whose attention is invited to endorsement hereon. ST A.A.A.G |

See "G" 206 Vol 6. | Savannah Ga July 15th 66  Writes concerning three children of Thos Mercer who have been illegally taken from him, and bound to Messrs Greenman and Lyman of Brooklyn, the contract being violated. | Aug 8th Respectfully returned. to Dr Waring with the information that a similar application from Thos Mercer was forw'd by Genl Tillson and ret'd with the following endorsement which is deemed proper in this case." July 7. 66 Respectfully ret'd. It seems that the children are indentured with the full consent of the parents freely given It does not appear that they that they have been treated bad and the breaking of the verbal promise outside the within contract with regard to uniting the parents &c is not sufficient ground for annulling the indenture. The children may be still under the control of Mr Lyman although from his immediate family and they may be absent with their own counsel, and if otherwise an order of the Civil Court for the Dist where they reside would be required to withdraw them from the custody of Mr Lyman. No objection exists to the proposed tour of Mr Wilkerson, but no expense can be incurred by the Gov't in the matter. S.E. A.A.A.G |

It is respectfully requested that the usual action may be taken by the War Department to secure the free entry of the within mentioned goods O.O.H Aug 14th Recd back with letter from Treasury Department giving notice of the free entry.
