Hospitals and Asylums are receiving special attention at this time to put them in the best possible condition for the approaching hot weather.  Those in this place (Little Rock) are in excellent order and need no apology, while those in other parts of the State have received less attention.  The Acting Surgeon in Chief is now engaged inspecting the several Hospitals throughout the State.  At Helena he reports the building used as unsuitable and recommends an appropriation to repair it.  But I prefer to let the proprietor make the repairs and increase the rent proportionately, if he will.

An endemic resembling cholera prevailed at Helena for some time and created some alarm.  Proper efforts were made to stay the progress and succeeded, temporarily at least.  The medical department is being
