Although the estimates for salary of teachers have perhaps been larger in this State than elsewhere, yet their aggregate since November 1st has been but Sixteen thousand eight hundred and fourteen 07/100 Dollars ($16,814.07) while the amount remitted to your office for the Refugees and Freedmen's Fund was to November 1" 1867, seventeen thousand one hundred and fifty five 13/100 dollars ($17,153 13/100) in excess of all expenses of the Bureau in this District to that date. So that there is nothing in the fact of our having drawn upon the Refugees and Freedmen's Fund to prevent us from receiving a pro rata share, according to the population of this State, of the successive appropriations of $500,000 each.
