So I took Tango lessons and I took dancing at the barre [[right margin]] barre [[/right margin]] I had this wonderful time with the Argentines.  The Argentine men are marvelous to Tango with.  Two people moving like one, to erotic music.  And then they would walk away and I'd never see them again.  I had beautiful clothes.  So I got two years training in acting, you see.

When I returned to New York, this was during World War I, I had beautiful clothes and they accepted me as being an ingenue in the in the French Theatre.

BOB: Did you have to try out for this?

B: I've forgotten, I really don't remember.  All I remember is that I played [[strikethrough]] sixteen [[/strikethrough]] sixty ingenue parts.  I really wasn't a good actress.  It was a repertory company.

When I met Duchamp and the Arensbergs, my interest went back to art and away from acting.  I wasn't really stage struck.  I wanted to do acting to get away from home and of course several of the directors were disgusting.  I had such a romantic and unfortunate point of view about life, I don't like that sort of thing.

There was [[strikethrough]] young [[/strikethrough]] one very gentlemanly man, he had a beard, and he was a friend of my family.  He'd been at my house for dinner.  He said, "Come to my office to speak about a job."
