4: BEATRICE'S PHILOSOPHY
(***God)
Fem: What do you believe about God? What do you think God is?
B: Well I don't believe he's out there smoking cigars. I think that there's a great spiritual "Something" and that we do not really know about the "Why" of the universe. I accept the idea of reincarnation, which has great meaning to me, [[strikethrough]] but I'm not clairvoyant. [[/strikethrough]] I can't prove it. But the more I read and hear, the more logical it seems.
[[strikethrough]] I think we come in... [[/strikethrough]] If there is reincarnation, it's as rather savage thinking people, and we're here to learn a lot. And I think we're here to learn to be decend human beings. Which is a mouthful when I say "decent human beings." [[strikethrough]] So many of us, and [[/strikethrough]] Probably God is guilty, because He's guilty of so much.
You see these big crowds in St. Peter's. You see thousands. And a lot of people will say, "God told me I should go to church often. God tells me I should send my daughter to school. God tells me I should get a divorce." I mean, so many millions of people use this thought that God is there, telling them what to do. I think it's an impertinence. Why should [[strikethrough]] they [[/strikethrough]] He choose any of us when you see the millions of people, just in this square. To think that there's somebody up there watching little us, advising us...it's insanity to me.
