Philosophy 30.

D: So maybe [[strikethrough]] you mean, [[/strikethrough]] by Detached, you mean trying to keep an objective view.

b: Yes.

D: I was worried that you meant being so detached that you wouldn't feel.

B: Oh no, you can have great feeling. Now, let's take Rosalind, who has meant so much to me. Whenever anybody was in trouble, she was there. She meant so much to me. But, her life was very full. I didn't mean so much to her. When I had to go to the hospital for surgery, she said, "Oh Beatrice, one shouldn't be alone. I'll come." So she came. She got herself to the hospital. But she wasn't smearing me all over with emotion. She came. She did a loving thing, with purity.

D: Yes, because she wasn't being selfish about it. Which people can be.

B: No. She was aware. Here was a friend of hers, going through serious operations. She shouldn't be alone. She was there. That was the way Rosalind lived. That's one of the reasons this quality of living that she had [[strikethrough]] this [[/strikethrough]] attracts me to her very much. This made me appreciate her.
