Dear Jane -
Please do not ask me for decisions on telephone- I am engrossed usually and forget the factors relating. Ill have to think before making decisions.
I explained my policy and I don't want to change. Generally I don't want my work loaned unless its for a sale review. What the gallery does with their work is their decision; I am not interested in loaning out what I own, in your care.
If this is too hard on you and too inconvenient you can drop me.
One factor about Soby and MM, I couldn't think of at the time, was this - I expect Frank O'Hara up here this fall at which time I can talk over a matter I have in mind- and we can talk about a loan to contemp. show. It won't be a stainless one - nor will the Whitney - I'm not loaning until I'm finished with the work and it is not photographed yet. They (Moma) etc will have to take me on my ground or drop me. I'm not interested in group shows.
