Dear Otto,
When you left after making the purchase you mentioned that you wanted exclusiveness for the East.
I feel in order that there be no misunderstanding that I should state my position anew, since it has not changed in my letter to you last year (1960) August 7 at Franconia.
I wish to direct my own career and judgements, as I do with my life and my work judgements. I shall always, as I see it now, decide and arrange what seems to me for my own good. I've no committments to anyone.
I hope the purchases you made were on my basis. If they were made with other expectations, I am willing to make amends.
I repeat this all in friendship and practicality that no understanding will exist.
Do I as yet have any payments due on "Tower Eight", the silver sale?
I am getting organized on the show project and should have photos soon. I expect visits from both art magazines and will take care of Time and Life with acquaintances. (on publicity.)
I'm so rushed I cannot get any vacation this year. I'll have to get a few days in the winter after things are over. Maybe Europe or Florida.
I don't want to leave a lot of work in NY. I need it here so when you send for the show, the pickup, which I think we talked about as around September I, will you send back all the unsold work on consignment as well as the unframed drawings. Here after I'll give you the drawings framed.
The kids are a joy---we run riding, swimming, and music lessons quite a full schedule.
Kindest regards,
David S
