This letter was written to David when he was working for A.G. Spalding. I had gone up to Bolton to paint, (the house) and get it ready for David to come up for his vacation. Mary Green was my companion, a fellow student at the League. The "high Awning" refers to the low awning on our porch in Brooklyn on which David invariably bumped his head.(the landlady like it LOW.
