To West 9 Street, Sunday G
Dear Leon,
Willies studio will be bare by December first. All the pictures will be gone to the exhibition or to storage. Do you know of anyone who would like to rent it daytimes for three months? If yourse yourself, there is a little room on the floor that you could have to spend a night in if you wanted to stay in town occasionally. This is a terribly hard up time for me. My brothers business has not given us a cent for six months, due to the taxation and heckling of the present regime. If I c ould get fifty dollars a month for the studio I should be glad. I want to ask friends to stop here to see the exhibition. so must have two maids.
I have promised myself to not spend another winter here under the present conditions. It is too expensive and above all, too sad. The heart has gone out of it.
If I can raise the money, it will be made into apartments. In a couple of months I shall know whether that will be possible. If it is done we shall start in March.
I wouldn't want anyone except you to stay the night here.
If you dont know of anyone for my purpose don't give the matter another thought and don't bother to answer this. My financial condition is temporary I hope. I intend to break up things here and shall repair tp some country place next year. Love to you all,
Edith
