Artist Statement

This new work began with the age old questions "who are we, where are we going, and why are we here?". This period of questioning was prompted by a series of events that happened to me. One event was the Whittier earthquake. For me, the earthquake can only be thought of as a metaphor for one not being able to stand on firm ground or having ones very foundation shaken and questioned. Other personal incidence seemed to occur without and intention or plan. This brought up the idea of who is in charge here? What about fate, chance, and our own destinies. The work is about finding some meaning and purpose in our daily activities and the importance of that. It was time to bring out the magnifying glass of observation and study our existence. Objects are used because they are from the real world, the world that is being observed.
