[[bullet]] Say to yourself, I am going to work in order to see myself and free myself. While working, and in the work, I must be on the alert to see myself. When I see myself in the work I will know that that is the work I am supposed to do. I will not have much time for other people's problems. I will have to be by myself almost all the time, and it will be a quiet life.

1898. Kevin drop uptown to see.. It was still standing but heavily damaged as was all of Uptown Whittier. At that time they started to bock off the area. So the studio problem had to wait. We started to clean up glass and pick up so the house would be a little less hazadres if andwhen there was a large after shock. We were all shocked and dazed and seemed to move slowly even tho [[image 1]] time was ticking. We were able to move things out of the studio on Sat. There had been a great dal of confusion as to l.if we would be able to go back into [[image 1 x 3]] the building, 2. when, 3. and could we remove the art. I was able to take the work I wanted to. There was a element of danger and caution. I had to weight the risks. Much ofmy work was in Santa Monica at my show at Art Space. The earthquake did not damage that area. I rented a storage space and the "studio" is in a box. This past month we have been painting, plastering, fixing. Ho does it feel, look, a month later? Brent certainly [[image 2]] has been emontionaly effected. Difiility in sleeping, loud noises. We all feel that way Our idea of "terra firma" has been shatered. We dont feel any great loss of "things". We feel sad about the lost of Whittier's old buildings. Living here nowis like living in Saigon, Nothern Ireland etc we are inconvenienced by not being able to go to our favorite little stores, books, restaurant and knowing how the friends that have owned them have suffered financil losses We miss the people and the paces.
