District of Delaware

Lieut. E.C. Knower Superintendent of this District reports every thing in a prosperous condition among the Freedmen he having just returned from a tour of Inspection through the State; The erection of School Houses is proceeding rapidly and will be ready by September 1st. He reports 20 Schools with 812 Scholars; all of them now Closed except 4 for vacation  Work plenty & wages fair - great expectations in what will be done in the next Fall & Winter, in educational & other matters of Importance to the Freedmen
