for them the same as for white children.

At Easton Md. we have the finest school house, and the largest school in the county which has had the effect to stir up the white people to the importance of having better houses for their children.

Too much praise cannot be paid to the teachers of these schools, for their devotion and energy in this great work, and the friends of this much abused people, have great cause to rejoice in the success of the work which has been accomplished. They themselves come to the rescue, and cheerfully and willingly pay from 50 cents to one dollar or more as the case may be, a month from their hard earned labour, to board the teachers and have their offspring instructed.

There has been expended for schools in this district, for rent and materials during the quarter, five thousand nine hundred and nineteen dollars and 85 cents ($5,919 85/100) exclusive of rail road charges for freight and lumber, the accounts of which have not yet been audited.

Reports as they have been heretofore received are not as correct, and satisfactory as they could be made by holding direct communications with the teachers themselves.
