dispute in regard to the expenses and to the supplies furnished by the land holder, and I have no doubt that in many cases these are much exaggerated to the serious loss of the freedmen.

The labor on the corn crop is now completed and that of the cotton has advanced. In fact the cotton crop is made; - it only remains to pick it, and therefore the great demand for the labor which has hitherto commanded the highest prices is rapidly diminishing, and the planters in many cases are anxious to diminish their expenses by discharging their laborers before the expiration of their contract; - or in cases where the labor is performed for a part of the crop, of finding an excuse for ousting them before a division is made.
