In addition to this the warm weather tends to discourage the freedmen and render them dissatisfied and uneasy.  In many instances they are willing to give up their interest in the grassy crop and hire themselves at $1.50 per day which they can readily obtain for their services.  With such a state of affairs the planter finds it difficult to control the laborers.  However the Agent has been able to induce many freedmen to return to the fulfilment of their contracts.
