G. Gordon Adam by consent of Genl. Thomas and Genl. Wood acted as agent for the protection of colored soldiers claims in Vicksburg. Those officers preferring to place them in his hands instead of prosecuting them by the Bureau. Adam was also I believe solicitor of the Bureau and had the confidence of the Asst. Comm'r of the State. I know nothing of the man personally but have always believed him to be honest
