General;
We the undersigned Colored Citizens of New Hanover County N.C have the honor to most respectfully request a few moments intrusion upon your valuable time, in order that we point out to you the great necessity that exists, and the large amount of profit we may derive by a visit to the place of the Hon John Langston, Inspector of Schools under the Bureau. We need advice on Education, on Temperance, on Economy, and every thing pertaining to a new made people, the same whom you have so assidously labored to place where they now stand. We thank you with glad hearts for the great unselfish interest you have thus manifested in our cause, and we pray for you, as we did for Mr Lincoln, and our common amen is that your life may be long and useful, in the cause of Christ, Liberty & truth. By sending Mr Langston among us we will be greatly benefitted, and the cause of Temprance and progress be strengthened in this state

We are Sir
Very Respectfully
