Gen Howard
Sir
Although having no personal acquaintance with Capt McMichael, I am somewhat acquainted with his military history, which is good. He is also well recommended to me, by persons in whom I have the fullest confidence. I therefore take pleasure in recommending him for the appointment which he seeks, believing that he is a worthy representative as he was a useful member of the army which suppressed the Rebellion. and that he will make a valuable and faithful official
