Gen'l respecting the responsibility of the Bureau for rents for the time since appropriations was allowed.

| Dec 22nd 1866 #138. | Q.M. Gen'l's Office. M.C. Meige Gen'l (3 enclos) | Washington Dec 20th 1866. Encloses a letter from Mr. Gev O'Reilly of Montgomery, Ala. Mr. O'Reilly was in the Qr. Mr's Dept of the Bureau in Ala from last March till his recent dismisal by Genl Swayne. He charges Genl Swayne with drawing forage for four private horses and declares that he owned none; he states that Bt. Col. CCCadle Jr. A.A.G. drew forage for 2 private horses while owning only one & drew commutation for quarters while occupying rooms furnished by the Gov't: he states that Bt. Maj. O.D. Kinsman also drew forage for 2 private horses and owned none, & that Bt. Col Edwin Bucher did the same &c &c. E.B. p174 Vol @. Jany 12th Rec'd back with report E.B. p 215, Vol 2. |
