In this Parish the freedmen are reported to be working well and appear to be contented.- No. complaints of a serious nature have been made-

Lafourche.
The Agent reports that no complaints, of a serious nature, have been made nearly all of the freedmen are working under a verbal contract which they seem to prefer although the planters have tried to persuade them to contract for a year. There is some political excitement. caused by the meeting of a Republican club, the Secretary of which is a citizen of Lockport. He is of course hated by all rebels and has received several anonymous communications threatening his life etc. -

St Helena.
In the early part of the month. the crops
