#1227 Headquarters Bureau of Refugees, Freedmen and Abandoned Lands, District of Louisiana No. 154 Julia St New Orleans, La October 11th 1867 Bvt Brig Genl FD Sewall Actg Asst Adjt General Bureau RF and AL Washington DC Sir, H. In accordance with a request of mine, Mr. Geo' Dunford was, June 21st 1867, appointed Assistant Sub Assistant Commissioner for this Bureau in this District. On the 16th Ulto. the appointment was revoked to take effect September 20th 1867. Vouchers for his services during September, viz: for twenty (20) days, were prepared, approved by me, and transmitted to him at his station, Vidalia. On or about the 5th inst, Mr. Dunford came to these Headquarters and stated, that at the time he left Vidalia the vouchers had not arrived at that point.- and produced another set of vouchers stating at the same time that he was very desirous to go North at once. The vouchers presented by him were made for 30 days, instead of 20. When these vouchers were approved the express understanding with the Mr. Dunford was that the former vouchers were to be returned by him to the office, a promise which
