Major. General. O.O. Howard
Commissioner Bureau R.F.&AL
Washington City D.C.

General: I have the honor to report, in accordance with Special Orders of Oct 16, 1867. that on my way to this place today, I learned of two schools for Freedmen taught at Concord Cabarrus county, one numbering twenty-five pupils, under the instruction and management of Mrs. J. E. Dorland and her son. and the other taught by Mrs Amos, a colored lady, numbering ten or twelve pupils only. The Schools are small because the children are, at this time, at work. The Sabbath School here numbers about one hundred scholars. Capt Curren the agent of the Bureau here, is an earnest worker in the Sabbath school. Rev'd Luke Dorland missionary
