Within a few days Col U. R Myers, as I am informed by the Rev'd S C Alexander, has given eight acres of land, said to be worth $600, and located within one mile of the center of the town, on which are to erected the School Buildings and dwellings of the teachers and professors of the University.
The sentiments both of whites and blacks here is favorable to education and elevation of the Freedmen.
The teachers all join in the representation, that the Agent of the Bureau has never visited their schools, nor given any personal attention to the work of education. This I find true of your agents in almost every locality in this state so far. It were well if Gen Miles were ordered to have the attachees of Bureau of this state give a more thorough personal attention to educational
