and a white gentleman, an Englishman by the name of A.B. Leekenby. The building used for school purposes at this place is a good log house which is also used both by the Methodist and Baptist people for their meetings. The white students attending the University located here. have in very few instances behaved unseemly either towards the teacher or scholars of the Freedmin's Schools.

No disturbances, I believe as yet, have occurred that in any wise warrant the belief that either the students or inhabitants of Chapel Hill are opposed to the education of the Freedmin. In Hillboro there is one Day School numbering one hundred and seventy five Scholars one Night School numbering one hundred and forty: and and a Normal School numbering fourteen.
