At Statesville, Iredell County, Rev W. J. Williams, a freedman is engaged in teaching and preaching for the Freedmen, under the auspicis of the "Old School General" Assembly. His Day School numbers thirty two pupils, his Night School fifty two, and his Sabbath School one hundred and two. Mr. Williams tells me that Capt. Jones, the Agent of the Bureau here shows no special interest in the Schools- gives them no personal attention.

Here, at Morganton, there is no School. The one formerly taught by Miss E. Pierson, upon a monthly charge to each Scholar of one dollar, was closed some four weeks ago. Here a new School House is being built for the Freedmen, upon a lot bought by them of Todd. R. Caldwell Esq for $300, one hundred and forty of which they have paid.
