-men, if properly advised stand ready to enter upon this work to the full measure of their ability. The Freedmen hereabout are very poor, they are paid very small wages for their services: but, for the most part, they appear to be sober and industrious. The morals of the Freedmen here I fear, are not good. Licentiousness seems to prevail to an alarming extent among them. I shall leave this place today for Goldsboro, stopping to address the people tonight at Salisbury, and tomorrow at Raleigh.
