General;--  According to Special Orders dated October 17th 1867, I have the honor to report that upon Inspection of Educational Affairs of Freedmen of this place there is here a Day School for them taught by Miss E.P. Washington of New Jersey, assisted by Mr. Jenkins a freedman, and that this school numbers by its enrollment Sixty Scholars with an average daily attendance of Fifty.  In this School there are two Sessions each day.  The Teachers having organized as yet no night School.  The Scholars are mainly boys and girls about one fourth larger boys.
   The School is entirely free.
   The text books used are the "National Series" except Saunders Speller   The attendance of the Scholars good and the tardiness is as reported very slight.  The School numbered last year one hundred and fifty   This small now because many of the children are sick and not a few are at work.  The Freedmen
