This is a free school and is distinguished for its thorough discipline the efficiency of its teachers and the progress of its children. The St. Paul School is taught by Miss E. Hesketh assisted by Miss E.J. Kennedy and is patronized by the Protestant Episcopal Freedmens Commission. It numbers one hundred and thirty five pupils with an average attendance of one hundred and ten. It is kep in St. Paul's Chapel and is also a free school. The Presbyterian Chapel School is taught by Rev. Wm. T. Carr assisted by M. Louisa Carr his wife, both being colored persons and is patronized by the old school Presbyterian General Assembly's Committee on Freedmen. It numbers forty eight pupils with an average attendance of forty three. It is kept in the Presbyterian Chapel and is also free. The attendance upon all three schools is regular and no special tardiness is complained by the teachers.

An attempt is to be made now by the teachers to prevent all tardiness. The Text books used in the Schools are "The National Series" Much oral instruction is given especially by Miss Noble in her school. In all three schools the children are making commendable progress. There is also established here for the benefit of the Freedmen an Industrial School arranged in five classes; each class meeting once a week and working from 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 o'clock P.M. each day.
