Since I came to this city the Teachers of the Freedmens Schools have formed a Teachers Association which is to hold regular monthly meetings hereafter for conference touching school matters.

Rev S.S. Ashley the Assistant Superintendent of Freedmens Schools of this section of the State is indefatigable in his labors to establish and sustain schools among the Freedmen. He deserves great credit for what he has already done, in this matter, and is now laboring to do.

The Freedmen here are intelligently and earnestly interested in their education and no opposition is offered them by the whites. The Sabbath Schools among the Freedmen are well attended. The exact numbers in these schools I am unable to give. No night schools have been opened as yet. They are to be opened soon.

Respectfully General,
Your obt. Servant
John M. Langston
General Inspector of School &c

P.S. Since writing the above today (Nov 18) I find that Miss Noble's school has increased so that it now numbers three hundred and thirty nine and Miss Goodman's has increased so that it numbers two hundred and twenty five in both rooms five hundred and sixty five. The house is running over. A new one is indeed needed Scores of children must be turned from the doors of this school weekly.

The Sabbath School in the Williston School building taught by the ladies above mentioned numbers now in the second week since it opened one hundred and fifteen - J.M. Langston
