in the purchase of sites for school-houses, and giving them a full explanation, with regard to the assistance, [[strikethrough]] that [[/strikethrough]] which will be furnished by the Government.] This course is of special advantage to the Superintendent himself in bringing him to face to face with the work, and of equal advantage to the people, in arousing them to a proper sense of their duty, in the respect, and in developing on their part, a sentiment and purpose of manly self-reliance. If there is any manifestation of shortcoming in the management of the educations work, on the part of the worthy Superintendent of North Carolina, it is to be found, in his not visiting all parts of the State himself, and by his personal contact with the people and the teachers, where schools have already been established, encouraging and stimulating, advising and influencing the latter, while he instructs and induces the former to exert themselves, even to sacrifices,- many and trying to establish among themselves, upon sure foundations, well-ordered and efficient schools. The time has come when no effort should be wanting in this regard; and this is a work naturally and peculiarly belonging to the Superintendent himself.
